Below are a number of articles about the mile, and also how to best get started enjoyably and safely.

*From many other runner's experience and now my own personal experience, I absolutely know that we can maintain a very high level of health well into our advanced years.
*We know you'll get excited about this and especially as your mile times come down.
*The best mile I've ever been officially recorded on was a mile I ran in a preseason high school meet just before my 18th birthday. It was 5:09 minutes. Later when I was 29, and again when I was 34, I ran the equivalent of a 4:50 minute mile when I ran the 1,500 meters in 4:30 minutes. This 4:50 minutes just happens to be the time I would now need to set a world record in the mile for my age group.
*Today, I just ran a fairly easy 5:48 minute mile on the UNLV track and about 10 days ago I ran a very hard 5:15 minute mile on the treadmill. My goal is to better the mile world record of 4:51 minutes by the end of October. I will be posting weekly results. I hope this might be inspiring to you (a 61 year old doing this) and for you to feel that you can get yourself in much better shape than you currently are.
